The original Anego (April–June 2005) followed Nao Shibata , a 32-year-old single woman working at a trading company. Surrounded by younger colleagues, she becomes the trusted “big sister” (anego) at work, but struggles with societal pressure regarding her unmarried status. She becomes involved in a complicated romantic relationship with Akihiko Kurosawa , a 22-year-old new employee.
