“It’s on a loop,” Leo muttered, but his hands trembled as he pulled up the video’s metadata. The file was only 3.2 megabytes. Impossible for the quality of the image. And it had been uploaded from an IP address registered to a museum that had burned down in 1972.

Sam crept to the door and pressed his ear against the wood. He went pale. “There’s something in the hall. I hear… breathing.”

The video was still playing, but the image had changed. The room was empty. No chair. No girl. Just a single, old-fashioned doll, sitting in the middle of the floor. The video was silent. No ambient hum, no static. Just the stark image of the rocking chair. For the first minute, nothing happened. Sam yawned. Maya checked her phone.
