The pun hangs in the air.
"…Maverik. Is that corn glowing ?"
The quest was simple: retrieve the "Starlight Seed" from the Scarecrow King. Maverik succeeded. Technically.
"You panicked ?"
"...Cornelius."
Lys pinches the bridge of her nose. "So you grabbed corn."
"Oh yeah? What's its name?"
She lunges. Maverik yelps, drops Cornelius (who rolls dramatically into a puddle), and scrambles out into the rain. Lys chases after him, still laughing despite herself.
"Not intentionally!" Maverik backs toward the barn door. "It slipped out! It was a reflex!"
"The Scarecrow King leaned in close. Real close. He whispered, 'Choose wisely, little thief.' And my brain just…" Maverik mimes an explosion next to his ear. "Pfft. Gone." Aw Shucks Cutscene
Maverik tries to stay offended, but a traitorous grin tugs at his lip. He kicks a loose piece of straw. "Aw, shucks."
Lys freezes mid-laugh. Her eyes narrow into deadly slits.
Maverik looks down. In his palm isn't a glowing seed. It’s a single, slightly squashed corncob. The pun hangs in the air
