India officially selected Barfi! as its entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards (2013). It made it to the shortlist of 9 films, though it did not secure a nomination.

The film premiered at the Busan International Film Festival and Marrakech International Film Festival, winning Best Actor (Ranbir Kapoor) at the Big Apple Film Festival.
