Dama Data Management Book Of Knowledge Review
Abstract In the age of big data, artificial intelligence, and regulatory demands (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), effective data management is no longer optional—it is strategic. The DAMA Data Management Book of Knowledge (DMBOK), now in its 2nd edition (DMBOK2), serves as the definitive reference guide for data management professionals. This paper explores the history, structure, core functional areas, environmental elements, and practical applications of DMBOK2, highlighting its role in transforming data from a byproduct of operations into a trusted enterprise asset. 1. Introduction Data is often called the “new oil,” but like oil, raw data is of little value without refinement, governance, and infrastructure. Organizations struggle with siloed data, poor quality, security breaches, and compliance failures. The Data Management Association (DAMA) International developed the DMBOK to address these challenges by providing a consensus-based, vendor-agnostic framework of best practices.
