Against your better judgment, you click “Update.” The progress bar moves… then stops. The dreaded red light appears on the interface. Your PC doesn’t recognize the device anymore.
If you can’t recover it via the USB boot pins, the FTDI chip (or the STM32) might actually be fried. At that point, buy a new one—they cost less than a pizza these days.
