Banri stares at her. “Who are you to me?”

“I was going to tell you,” Linda says, tears finally falling. “That night, before the accident. I was going to tell you I loved you. But you fell from the bridge. And I—” She chokes. “I couldn’t save you. And when you woke up, you didn’t know me. So I let you go.”

“He lost them,” Kouko says, determined. “So I’ll give him new ones. Better ones. Starting tomorrow: our first official couple’s trip to the beach.”

Linda finally breaks. She pulls a crumpled, aged paper from her coat—a hand-drawn map of the town. “We made this in middle school,” she says, handing it to Banri. “Places we wanted to go. Places we promised to visit together. The pier. The festival. The beach.” Golden Time Episode 5

Before Mitsuo can respond, appears at the station entrance. She’s holding an umbrella, even though it’s not raining. She looks at Banri, then at Mitsuo. The three of them stand in a triangle of silence.

Banri looks at the map. Then at Kouko. Then at Linda.

“I don’t remember loving you,” he says to Linda. It’s brutal and honest. “But my body remembers the pain of losing you.” Banri stares at her

A teenage Linda, gripping his arm on a crowded festival bridge. “Don’t go,” she whispers. “Please. I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you everything.” But young Banri pulls away. “I can’t stay here. I can’t be your friend anymore, Linda. It hurts too much.”

For a few minutes, it works. Banri laughs genuinely as Kouko splashes him. 2D-kun builds an elaborate sand castle. Even Mitsuo smiles. But then Banri wanders toward an old wooden pier. The sight triggers something—a flicker of a memory: a girl with braids, crying, a train platform. His hand flies to his head.

Linda smiles—a sad, beautiful, final smile. She folds the map, presses it into Banri’s hand, and walks away into the dark. Mitsuo follows her, just to make sure she’s okay. I was going to tell you I loved you

Back at the inn, Banri and Kouko sit on the porch. The fireworks are over. The sea is quiet.

Mitsuo goes pale. He knows about the accident. He knows about Linda. But he’s never said a word.

Kouko notices. “Banri?”

The upbeat theme song plays, but the visuals are slightly different: a single, fractured frame of a younger Banri and Linda on a school rooftop flashes for a split second. Act One: The Uninvited Guest
