The isnad was the first "security chain" in human history. It’s only fitting that we now upgrade that chain with 21st-century cryptography.

But in the 21st century, a new question is emerging:

The Digital Chain of Narration: Can We Encrypt the Hadith?

Encryption is simply a tool—a digital isnad —to fulfill the prophetic promise: "This religion will continue to be preserved..." (Sunan al-Daraqutni).

The answer is no. Classical Hifdh (memorization) remains the primary preservation method—millions have the Quran and thousands have major Hadith collections in their hearts. Encryption does not replace memorization; it against the unique threats of the internet age (viruses, deepfakes, state censorship).

Enter the concept of — not a classical term, but a modern necessity.

For over 1,400 years, the preservation of Hadith (the sayings, actions, and approvals of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) has rested on a rigorous science known as Mustalah al-Hadith . Scholars meticulously guarded chains of narration ( isnad ) and texts ( matn ) using oral and written memorization.

“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian.” (Quran 15:9) — perhaps that guardianship now includes lines of code.
