Alex closed his laptop.

He clicked that.

He ran it again on a different photo—same bassist, different night. No scar. But the plugin added something else: a faint reflection in the pupil that wasn’t a stage light. A window. Trees. Like the bassist had been somewhere else entirely when the shutter fired.

Alex opened Noiseware Legacy. The interface was old—sliders with weird names: Frequency Coherence , Edge Threshold (Psychovisual) , a checkbox labeled "Assume Human Subject (v2)" .

He fed Noiseware family photos. A grainy shot of his late grandmother from 1992, scanned from a drugstore print. The plugin returned her face with an expression Alex had never seen: not the gentle smile of the original, but something wry. Amused. And Alex understood, too late, that noise reduction was never about making images cleaner. He couldn’t stop
