Jack begins to despair. Every portal he finds is either a trap, a mirage, or collapses upon approach. Aku sends assassins: the (alien hunter pride who catch Jack but release him out of honor), the Ninja of the Night (a shadow-demon that mirrors Jack’s moves), and the Spartan Guard (seven cyborg warriors from a dead planet).
But the time paradox destroys Ashi, who was born from Aku’s essence. Jack holds her as she fades. He weeps once – then rises. He watches a ladybug land on a new cherry blossom tree.

Signature arc – “Jack and the Zombie Samurai” : Jack fights an undead ronin who was once a samurai like him. After victory, the zombie whispers, “There is no portal. Aku lied. You will die here.” Jack nearly gives up but is saved by a village of blind monks who remind him: “The path is the goal.”
Together, Jack and Ashi find his sword (buried in a skeleton’s ribcage inside a giant turtle’s stomach). They fight Aku’s – a mountain-sized robot. Ashi discovers she inherited Aku’s time-travel essence. She can open portals. Jack begins to despair
