Reluctantly, the two team up. They locate the source of the signal: a massive, blue mechanical lion buried in a canyon. Inside the lion’s energy field, they find a that responds to Keith’s touch — but Shiro is the one who feels a strange connection.

Sendak demands the Lions — revealing that there are five in total, and Voltron is the only force capable of stopping the Galra Empire. Shiro’s suppressed memories return: he was a prisoner of the Galra, forced to fight in their gladiatorial arena. He saw the other Lions in a vision. In the chaos, the Blue Lion suddenly chooses Lance — not Keith — as its pilot, awakening fully and allowing him to fly it. The others pile inside, barely escaping Sendak’s forces. Using the Lion’s advanced weaponry, Lance blasts the Galra ship out of the sky.

But this is only the beginning. A holographic message plays inside the Lion from of Altea, who introduces herself as the last survivor of a planet destroyed by the Galra ten thousand years ago. She urges the pilots to find the other Lions and form Voltron , the legendary defender of the universe.
